Nintendo has had Super Smash Bros. Ultimate out for a while now, with the Nintendo Switch 2 being announced, fans are eager to see who will be in the next Smash game. Here are the top 10 fighters that should be in SSB6. Just to clarify, this list only has potential fighters that Nintendo might actually add, so no characters like Master Chief from Halo (only on Xbox). And another thing to keep it real, I’m not going to include characters that are technically in video games, but are not mainly video game characters, like Spider-Man, Darth Vader, or Mickey Mouse. In fact, a few of the characters on this list have spirits in SSBU already.
- Lara Croft
Tomb Raider is a very popular series with many games originating in 1996. A lot of Tomb Raider games have been on Nintendo systems like the GBA and DS, and Tomb Raider 1-3 and 4-6 have been remastered on Switch. With these new remasters, Lara Croft is definitely eligible to be on the next Smash Bros. roster. Lara Croft is also one of the most iconic video game characters of all time. There are three whole Tomb Raider movies, and another being made, which goes to show how popular Lara Croft is. She might not have the most interesting move set material from Tomb Raider, but then all of Captain Falcon’s moves are made up for Smash.
- Bandana Waddle Dee
I think it is time for Nintendo to add a new character from Kirby to Smash, because it is a popular franchise that only has three characters in Smash, the same number as Star Fox and Kid Icarus, which a lot of people have only heard of because of Super Smash Bros. Bandana Waddle Dee has been in a lot of Kirby games. He was less important to start but has grown in importance and popularity. As he is now the second player in co-op mode, more than ever, should be in the next Super Smash Bros.
- Waluigi
Waluigi is probably the most wanted character for Smash, leaving people mad at and disappointed in Nintendo when he wasn’t in the DLCs for SSBU. The reason that Waluigi isn’t in Smash yet is because he only shows up in less popular Mario spin-offs, like Mario Tennis Aces. However that doesn’t mean that he shouldn’t be added, as he is still very popular and a lot of people want him in SSB6. He is still an important character that deserves a place in Smash, and besides, they added Daisy, so why not Waluigi?
- Chell
Chell is the protagonist of Portal, Valve’s very successful puzzle game series. Portal was originally only available on Windows, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360. However the Switch now has both Portal and its sequel, Portal 2. Chell wields a portal gun, used to solve puzzles in the original game, but in Super Smash Bros., she could have a very interesting and fun move set and play style. Especially with Portal’s Switch port, I think that Chell would be a wonderful addition to the roster. She definitely deserves a place.
- Dr. Eggman
Why does Nintendo have only one fighter from Sonic the Hedgehog? There are many theories why, but we really don’t know. However, Sonic 100% still deserves a second character, and Dr. Eggman would be the best option. Dr. Eggman is the best option because he is the main antagonist in the series and was in the first Sonic game, in addition to being a very wanted addition ever since Sonic was added to Smash in 2008. The Sonic franchise has been going on for a while and has grown in popularity with the release of three Sonic movies. While Sonic isn’t owned by Nintendo, Sonic the Hedgehog games have been coming out on Nintendo systems since the Game Boy Advance, more than 20 years ago! There have also been five whole Sonic games on the Switch, while Nintendo franchises like The Legend of Zelda only have three!
- Chun-Li
Chun-Li needs to be the third Street Fighter character in Super Smash Bros. Street Fighter is such a popular fighting game with a long history going back to popularity at the arcade and on the Super Nintendo. Chun-Li is probably the most popular Street Fighter character aside from Ryu, and he is already in Smash. I know there are technically two Street Fighter characters in SSBU already, but it just feels a little empty because Ryu and Ken are pretty much the same. Chun-Li can make all of Street Fighter more represented so it is not just defined by Ryu’s moves.
- Scorpion
Scorpion should be the next M rated fighter in the SSB6 roster! Scorpion is the most popular character by far from Mortal Kombat. He has been on multiple covers for Mortal Kombat games, and is might be the only character you have seen or know the name of if you don’t play Mortal Kombat. Since Nintendo doesn’t frown upon violent games anymore and has the most recent Mortal Kombat games on the Switch, I think that Scorpion deserves a place, just like Ryu and Ken have. As long as Nintendo doesn’t include the gory violence from Mortal Kombat, Smash Bros. will still be E10+ and not M, because that’s what Nintendo has been doing with characters, like Bayonetta, whose games are also rated M for mostly violence.
- Sans
On September 4th, 2019 the Sans Mii Fighter costume was announced. Many fans were very happy and have purchased the 75 cent mii costume from Undertale, despite it not doing anything mechanically in the game. It was a nice moment, but do you know what would be better? Adding him as a fighter! Given the reaction of just a Mii Fighter costume, it would be weird if Nintendo didn’t add Sans. Undertale is a popular indie game and Sans in Smash would give it a lot of support. Undertale is even on the Nintendo Switch, making it very possible to be in the next smash game.
- Eevee
Seriously, another pokémon, aren’t there 8 of them? Yes, I know that Pokémon is tied with Fire Emblem in having the second most fighters per series (after Mario), but Eevee definitely should still be in Super Smash Bros. for many reasons. While it is true that there are a lot of pokémon already, they almost all have pretty different move sets and play styles (unlike Fire Emblem fighters), and Eevee would also be a very unique character who could possibly evolve in the middle of the match into one of their many evolutions! Eevee is a very popular and iconic pokémon as well and has even gotten a whole mainstream Pokémon game named after them. They are probably the second most iconic pokémon, only after Pikachu! With 2025 officially declared The Year of Eevee, it’s time for Eevee to smash.
- Toad
Toad is definitely the character that needs to be in Smash the most. They are in almost every Mario game and have much more of a claim to be in Smash than Waluigi. Some people say Toad can’t be added because “Toad” is a species and not just one person, but that shouldn’t matter because fighters like Yoshi, for goodness sake, are already in Smash Ultimate, and people are just fine with that. Some people say that they would not be unique enough and they don’t have enough personality, but they have much potential with the Captain Toad series. Also, I think that they could even represent the Mario Kart series, as there is also surprisingly little representation for Mario Kart in Super Smash Bros. despite Mario Kart 8 Deluxe being the fifth best selling game of all time (and the single best-selling Switch game). People also say that Toad can’t be in Super Smash Bros. because there are already Toads in Peach and Daisy’s move sets. This hasn’t stopped Nintendo before, because Chrom first showed up in Robin’s final smash in SSB4 and is now a playable character and is still in Robin’s final smash in SSBU. Also, Toad is very iconic and recognizable to people who don’t play Mario games, while not too many people have heard of other characters who are in SSBU like R.O.B., Pit, Corrin, or Mr. Game & Watch. That is why Toad is the number one next character to add to Super Smash Bros.
