Hack the Planet: Deck Diving 8: Professor Flexible

Break anything
Flexibility is the word

Hello, and Welcome to another issue of Deck Diving. Today I’ll be looking at one of the new creation and Control identities: The Professor.

The fun thing about the professor is that, due to his easy import of a single copy of any program, he’s great for a toolbox deck. Get your economy set up, then just dig out whichever breaker you need at the time. Between test run, self modifying code, and the personal workbench you can easily bring out just the best breaker for the job when you need it.

On to the deck.

Identity:
The Professor: Keeper of Knowledge (Creation and Control)

I didn’t go to four years of hacker school to be called “Mr,” thank you very much.

Total Cards: (49)

Event (11)
Test Run (Cyber Exodus #47) x3 Fetch the right ICE breaker now
Sure Gamble (Core #50) x2
Scavenge (Creation and Control #34) x2 For when it’s time to change out your breaker load out.
Modded (Core #35) x2
Diesel (Core #34) x2

Hardware (8)
The Personal Touch (Core #40) x2
Omni-drive (Creation and Control #39) x2
Monolith (Creation and Control #36) x2 We like lots and lots of breakers, so why not go for a lot out quickly?
Clone Chip (Creation and Control #38) x2 Turns out we needed that breaker after all.

Go fetch.

Program (20) We’re toolboxing in this deck: we have a lot of different breaker options, each at a different viable point, so you can select the breaker you want based on the efficiencies against the ICE on board.
Snowball (Trace Amount #27) x1
Self-modifying Code (Creation and Control #46) x3 Fetch a breaker mid run
Inti (Creation and Control #48) x1
Gordian Blade (Core #43) x1
Deus X (A Study in Static #66) x2
Crypsis (Core #51) x1
Battering Ram (Core #42) x1
Corroder (Core #7) x1 ■■
Djinn (Core #9) x1 ■■
Femme Fatale (Core #26) x2 ■Femme is doing double duty due to her bypass ability. Also fun: test run her, then scavenge for one in the discard.
Mimic (Core #11) x1 ■
Morning Star (What Lies Ahead #4) x1 ■■■■
Ninja (Core #27) x1 ■■
Parasite (Core #12) x1 ■■
Sneakdoor Beta (Core #28) x1 ■■■
Yog.0 (Core #14) x1 ■

Resource (10)
Sacrificial Construct (Core #48) x2 since we’re going for specialized breakers it’s *really* bad to lose one. Don’t risk that.
Professional Contacts (Creation and Control #49) x2 This deck would like to get cards. Depending on play style you may want to switch one to an Opus for better economy once you’re set up.

for what you’re working on.

Personal Workshop (Cyber Exodus #49) x2  Be careful of tags, but you can load up several breakers on a workshop and just pull off what you need when you need it. The power of the professor is his flexibility, and the work shop makes that easier.
Kati Jones (Humanity’s Shadow #91) x2
Aesop’s Pawnshop (Core #47) x2 When you don’t need a breaker any more, get a nice little payday out of it.

So there’s the Professor. As we’ve reached a point where new decks are coming out faster than I’m writing these articles, feel free to let me know in the comments what deck type you’d like to see next.

Happy Hacking!

        1. Ok, had not seen that ruling. Not at all what I would’ve thought the ruling would be.

side note, kinda ridiculous that rulings are on bbg. hopefully the next faq will have that, though who knows when that’ll be. As much as I love Netrunner, FFG seems to not want me playing it 🙁

          1. Yeah, my biggest complaint with them is how poorly they release ruling information.
The FAQs are actually really good, but the delay before they come out and the lack of up to date rulings anywhere on the official site makes things fairly confusing sometimes.
That said if you know about BGG being the best place to get info, google searches of their site usually turn up the answers you need.

          2. Sure. I think part of the problem though is push vs. pull on the rulings. If I know I need a ruling I can go to bgg for it. But something like this where I didn’t realize I had the wrong ruling, unless I stumble upon it I’m never going to know.

FFG makes some awesome games, but they really need to up their organized play game.
