FANTASY FLIGHT GAMES ACQUIRES CONTENT CREATORS STRANGE ASSEMBLY

Worldwide recognized games publisher Fantasy Flight Games, a studio of Asmodee North America (ANA), the North American arm of leading international games publisher and distributor Asmodee Group, is pleased to announce the acquisition of United States based website and podcast Strange Assembly. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Founded in 2010 by Chris Stevenson, Strange Assembly is well known for its coverage of the venerable Legend of the Five Rings brand, which was acquired by Fantasy Flight Games in 2015. Strange Assembly covered the legacy Legend of the Five Rings collectible card game and roleplaying game, and has continued to cover Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game and the upcoming fifth edition of Legend of the Five Rings: The Roleplaying Game, both published by Fantasy Flight Games.

Strange Assembly is also known for its charity organization, spearheading the Solving the Riddle charity events for the Legend of the Five Rings collectible card game, and participating in the Jack Vasel Memorial Fund auction, which is hosted annually on leading board and card game website BoardGameGeek.com. This charity work was assisted by Fantasy Flight Games in 2017, when one of the auction winners worked with Strange Assembly to cover the launch of Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game at Gen*Con 50.

Strange Assembly has additionally covered other games published by Fantasy Flight Games, including Mansions of Madness, Android: Netrunner, and games from the Star Wars IP, such as Star Wars: The Card Game, Star Wars: Destiny, and Star Wars: Imperial Assault.

Regarding the agreement to purchase Strange Assembly, Steve Horvath, Senior Vice President of Communications at Fantasy Flight Games, said “The prospect of working with Strange Assembly is very exciting for us. Strange Assembly has been a key bridge in engaging the passionate Legend of the Five Rings community as Fantasy Flight Games has established a new incarnation of the card game, roleplaying game, and world of Legend of the Five Rings.

Chris Stevenson, podcast host and managing editor of Strange Assembly, said “We’re thrilled to be joining Fantasy Flight Games. The staff at Fantasy Flight Games has a long history of making both great tournament games, like Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game and the X-Wing Miniatures Game,  and games that provide an amazing narrative experience, such as Mansions of Madness and Battlestar Galactica. We’re delighted to be able to collaborate with them to bring content to the community about Fantasy Flight’s excellent stable of intellectual properties, including Legend of the Five Rings, Star Wars, and The Arkham Horror Files. The resources and access of Fantasy Flight Games will enable us to make more and better content for the next decade of Strange Assembly.”

Strange Assembly will initially continue to operate out of Springfield, Virginia. Managing editor Chris Stevenson, and staff Jay Earle and Mike Cook will stay on as Strange Assembly is incorporated into Fantasy Flight Games. Staff from Fantasy Flight Games will be given the opportunity to produce individualized community content to be published under the Strange Assembly banner.
