Hack the Planet: Deck Diving 13: NBN Tag & Bag

♪He bravely ran away, away♫ ♫when danger reared its ugly head♫ ♪He bravely turned his tail and fled♪

Hello, today on Deck Diving we’ll be looking at NBN-brand Scorched Earth. Weyland has been having a successful time nuking Runners from orbit, and NBN should be just as capable since they’re even better at finding out where to send those nukes.

That said, we see a lot more Weyland for two reasons: 1. they have in-house scorched and it’s cheaper to import the tag tricks than the nukes. B. Weyland also has in-faction tutoring, most notably Project Atlas, giving it a more consistent chance to find its nukes when it needs them. That said, NBN can still make the deck and if I only made tournament winning decks … well, someone better at this game than me should be writing the decks.

On to the deck!

Identity:
NBN: Making News (Core) Core set identity gives us +2 on any trace attempts, a nice benefit.

Tag?

Total Cards: (49)
Agenda (11)
Breaking News (Core #82) x3 Temp Tags. If you carry it over for a turn it’s really hard for the Runner to shake these tags.
Private Security Force (Core #107) x3 With the number of tags running around a scored Security Force can easily get the ball rolling and force the Runner to be constantly playing defensively.
Restructured Datapool (What Lies Ahead #16) x3 Another fun one once scored: every turn make the Runner pay (4 – link) or get a tag.
Profiteering (Second Thoughts #39) x2 Take the money and run. Thanks to SEA Source, a high enough credit advantage against the Runner is basically your win condition.

Asset (8)
Jackson Howard (Opening Moves #15) x3  Since we can’t tutor, we’ll have to settle for lots and lots of card draw. In a pinch Jack can also get back Scorched that were used/milled.
Private Contracts (Cyber Exodus #59) x3 Again, we need monies: this is one of the best options, and often can be left lightly defended while still getting a full pay-day since its high trash cost leaves many Runners unwilling to deal with it.
Snare! (Core #70) x2 ■■

ICE (17) Since the environment is still heavily influenced by Atman we have a lot of 2 ofs, and a good spread of strengths.
Bastion (Creation and Control #26) x2
Data Raven (Core #88) x2 Always a great choice: short of Femme anything getting past is still getting some love. (and by love we mean tags)
Draco (What Lies Ahead #20) x2 End and tag? What’s not to love.
Flare (Future Proof #117) x2 Great ICE: kill their Carapace, put some damage on them, and keep them out.
Pop-up Window (Cyber Exodus #56) x2
TMI (What Lies Ahead #17) x2
Trollbooth (Core #90) x2
MuckRaker (Second Thoughts #35) x2 A new ICE: potentially gain a bunch of tags and keep the Runner out. Should Burn through their bank accounts at the very least — which as mentioned before is sort of the alt win condition here.
Rototurret (Core #64) x1 ■ Still a great one of surprise, especially against Atman who (unless they dropped an empty one) cannot deal with the turret.

no grok sports>

Operation (13)
Closed Accounts (Core #84) x2 We’ve got enough tags running around here that we might as well make use of them before nuke time comes along. Often Closed Accounts can win you the game on its own anyway.
Hedge Fund (Core #110) x3
Midseason Replacements (Future Proof #116) x2 Should the Runner manage to get their hands on one of your tasty, tasty Agendas, dog pile tags on them until it’ll take too many turns to wipe them all. (Just remember Runners; you have the rest of the game to get rid of all of those tags :O )
SEA Source (Core #86) x2 You’re it!
Scorched Earth (Core #99) x2 ■■■■
Power Grid Overload (Trace Amount #37) x2 ■ Great for taking out Carapace, should the Runner try to prepare.

There’s the deck: as with all Scorched Earth decks we’re trying to nuke the Runner from orbit before they steal all of our goodies. With the new tournament rules weighting all loses equally there’s no reason not to let the Runner snag a few Agenda if it nets you the win. Midseason Replacements can easily turn a Runner’s happy steal into a look of utter sadness.

Happy Hacking!
