The Gamers: Hands of Fate on Kickstarter

I haven’t delved head-first into the wilds of Kickstarter, but I did finally kick a couple of projects, including an RPG adventure called The Mask of Death. Why this particular module to jump into Kickstarter? Well, The Mask of Death is the adventure being written and played by the characters in the movie The Gamers: Dorkness Rising, a movie about, well, a group of gamers writing and playing through a D&D module. I rather liked this movie.

Now, the same folks are going to be shooting a third Gamers movie (I was not a fan of the first movie, called just The Gamers). And they are kickstarting that film – Hands of Fate – as I type. One of the reasons I’m tossing this out here (in addition to the fact that I liked the prior film) is that in this movie, the gamers get into CCGs. And, in particular, a fictional CCG that is loosely based on Legend of the Five Rings:

“We’re huge fans of Legend of the Five Rings, the fantastic storyline-driven collectible card game that helped inspire Hands of Fate. When AEG, the publisher of L5R, agreed to be the in-movie publisher of the fictional CCG, we were elated. Now we’re working with them to develop the look and feel of the game, the card art and design, and the backstory of a fictional game that 15 years of player-guided storyline decisions have created.

About the Romance of the Nine Empires

Romance of the Nine Empires is a fictitious interactive Collectible Card Game set in the fantasy world of Countermay. Players assume command of one of nine vastly different warring factions — including steampunk aliens, a dark god-king’s crusade of conversion, displaced WWII-era America GIs, and a risen empire of the undead — to expand, glorify, or defend their empires. Through its fictitious 15 year history, players have shaped the world of Countermay through their individual and collective achievements, and the results are reflected in the story and the current state of the empires.”

So, hey, you might want to check it out. Kickstarter rewards include getting your name on the side of a fictitious card for a fictitious card game, including whatever fictitious storyline tournament it was that you won. That link again: The Gamers: Hands of Fate on Kickstarter.
